This is quite fortunate for them, actually. That's a large death toll for a small area. Just seeing how even you guys are acting right now with the whole "let's help" bit scares me as to how much the humanitarian fanatics are riling up about this. The money being donated I am assuming will be record breaking, I'm sure, and this large source of money should no doubt be able to re-construct their cities, and possibly even their economy.
All in all, less people to share a nation's wealthy with, large amounts of money coming in. I'm just taking a stab and I'm going to say that in 10-15 years, people will be financially better off than they were yesterday.
On a personal level, though, I am gravely sorry for the losses suffered and the pain endured, and every single one of them will be in my thoughts and prayers.
How about everyone stops bitching about whether or not to help and actually do something. Those are human beings down there that need help.
If a catastrophe like this hit North Korea I'm sure we would help them too.
All anybody can do right now is just try and donate whatever they can to help these people weather it is money or food or clothing all together. At my job we are accepting donations of any amount to help these out. It's great that a lot of people actually care to spend an extra dollar or 5 to give these people something to eat or wear after what just happened.
In my opinion I really think it shouldn't matter who is in trouble just that we can help and give aid to one another in a time of need. (This being the occasion).
Remember: "Every little bit helps"
I ,myself, donated: $20 to aid the people of Haiti.

It's sad but Haiti was devastated long before this earthquake hit.
Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross International Reponse Fund. It's charged to your cell phone bill.
Okay...well see my view on this is that...I mean yeah it sucks for Haiti we should help that'd be a good idea, but our country is pretty fucked up right now so we shouldn't really be focusing on other countries like America has always done.

Yeah Viper, maintaining a fluctuating economy caused by capitalist greed is waaaaaay more important than supporting an already-crippled and devastated country who just helplessly suffered 100,000 of its citizens being wiped off the planet from a natural disaster. So if you were in a position of power under one of the most powerful countries in the world with excessive resources even in a recession, your public statement would be: "Yeah sorry about your whole country-being-destroyed thing, but our hands are totally tied because we are the only country with problems right now."?
